Obituary

of Paw Paw, formerly of South Bend, died August 24, 2014 at the Allegan County Medical Care Community. Mr. Sells was born April 1, 1922, in Twinton, TN, the son of Walter and Trissie (Winningham) Sells. Harold graduated High School in MacDonald , Ohio in 1941. At age 18 decided to enlist in the Navy, rather than wait to get drafted into the Army. That was a life changing decision. Harold ended up on the USS Maryland, stationed at Pearl Harbor. On Sunday December 7, 1941, Harold's life, and the World as we knew it changed forever. He is a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc., Paw Paw American Legion Post, Marcellus VFW, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paw Paw, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and retired from State Farm, as an insurance adjuster in the South Bend area in 1987. He and his late wife, Berniece, spent over 30 years at their summer home on Cedar Lake, in Marcellus. Surviving are his son: Jerry and Anne Peterson, of Allegan; 5 grandchildren: Jeremiah and Brian, Joshua and Erin, Kenneth and Lauri, Mitchell and Amy, Joseph and Lisa; 2 great grandchildren: Jackson and Taylor; his brother, Ray Sells. He was preceded in death by his wife: Berniece; son: Tom; sister: Naomi. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paw Paw, at 11 am, with a visitation at Church from 10 - 11 am. Rev Fr. Alan P. Jorgenson Celebrant. Military Graveside services will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Restore The USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, www.pacifichistoricparks.org. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
