of Hopkins, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Maplewood of Sandy Creek, in Wayland. Gwen was born October 17, 1928, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Herbert and Sarah (Washburn) O'Mera. She was a member of the Hopkins United Methodist Church for over 78 years. Gwen worked at the Hopkins Elementary School for 20 years as a mentor and playground supervisor. Surviving are her 4 children; Jim Ballard, Mike Ballard, Nancy and Terry Brink, and Bob and Shelley Ballard, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, her special companion, Edward Ballard, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, and her half sister, Bobbi. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, August 14, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at the Hopkins United Methodist Church, Pastor Linda Burton-Collier will officiate. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Twp. Memorials may be made to the Church or Wings of Hope Hospice.
