Gerrit DeKorte, Jr., 64 of Allegan, died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. DeKorte was born July 24, 1940 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Gerrit and Leslie (Adsit) DeKorte, Sr. Gerrit was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during the Vietnam Era. He had retired from the Meijer Warehouse in Walker after 30 years and then worked at TruHeat in Allegan for 6 years. He was a loving and devoted husband and best friend to his wife Frances; a loving father to Matt & Jamie Opperman, Marcy DeKorte, Brenda & Stephen Opdycke, Joe & Cheryl Erbes, and David & Karrie Erbes; a wonderful "poppa" to 11 grandchildren; dear brother to Daniel & Diana DeKorte, Joyce & Rich Douglas, Karen McCarty and Susie Palmer; brother-in-law to, Caroline & Ken Iteen, Joann & Jim Smith, Margie & Bob Martin; many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Howard and Larry. The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, and Saturday from 12 Noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm.
