Obituary

George Junior Schout, age 63, passed unexpectedly on January 24th, 2025, in Allegan, Michigan. Born in 1961 to Junior and Genevieve (Essenburg) Schout in Zeeland, Michigan, George lived a life defined by hard work, creativity, and a deep love for his family and friends.

As the heart and soul of Outback Construction, George's remarkable abilities as a "jack of all trades" set him apart. There was little he couldn't fix or build, from constructing and remodeling homes and businesses to repairing equipment and tackling complex projects.  He took immense pride in his work, always striving for perfection. His commitment to completing every task with the utmost care and attention to detail earned him the respect and admiration of clients and peers alike.

In his free time, George was always immersed in projects around his property or in his well-equipped shop. A true tinkerer at heart, he spent countless hours exploring new ideas, whether designing, building, repairing, or restoring. His interests spanned from diving into computers and electronics to investigating renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, reflecting his passion for sustainable living. His mechanical ingenuity and problem-solving skills also extended to automotive work, where he often helped his son with a variety of vehicle projects.

Beyond the technical, George had a nurturing side, cultivating a beautiful garden with his wife Laura and caring for their animals, which brought him a sense of peace and joy.  More than anything, George valued time spent with family and friends, whether it was a quiet evening at home, a weekend project with his son, or a family gathering to share stories and laughs. His diverse interests and talents not only enriched his own life but also touched the lives of those around him.

George is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laura Schout; his son Jason (Jailyn) Schout; his grandchildren Jensen and Jade; his sisters Gloria Shumaker, Nancy (Vern) Klinger, Barb Blystra, Mary Schout, and Joyce (Bill) Berghorst; and his brother-in-law Dave (Karin) Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Genevieve (Essenburg) Schout, as well as his brothers-in-law Roger Shumaker, John Blystra, Bob Veldheer, and Jeff Greenwood.

George's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, his work, and the family and friends who will forever remember his generosity and endless curiosity.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a favorite charity in George's name. A visitation and celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 8th from 1PM – 3PM at Victory Point Church, 11530 Ransom St.  Holland, MI.
