Obituary

of Allegan, died Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Mr. Abrams was born August 6, 1920, in Chicago, son of the late, Frederick G. Sr. and Lauretta (Broz) Abrams. Fred was formerly of Blue Island, IL., he moved to Allegan in 1975, and enjoyed 40 years on Miner Lake. He retired from Meccon Industries Inc. of Lansing, IL 1984. Fred was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII as an Infantry Officer in Europe, where he earned the Combat Infantry Badge. He retired as a Captain in the Illinois National Guard in 1951. During his time in Michigan, he was treasurer of the Kiwanis Club, and the Elks, and was very active in the administration details of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, and still served daily mass at age 91. Fred loved his family, and enjoyed a good time. He was a take charge man, and you had to be careful what you wished for, as he would deliver. He was an avid story teller, and could relate every minute detail. He will be greatly missed, we send our love and wish him God speed on his way to his Heavenly home. Surviving are his wife: Carolyn (Wright); his children: Frederick and Blanche, Michael and Karen, Kate and Ron Langley Abrams, his step daughter: Jill and Steve Wyrwa; 10 grandchildren: Jackie, Tatiana, Patrick, Connor, Kevin, Jon, Anna, Laura, Jordan, Shelby; 3 great grandchildren: Danielle, Cienna, and Calvin, with one more on the way. Plus his best buddy, Felix the cat. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine (Holland) in 1981, his infant son, Joseph; and his brother, Harold. Friends may meet with the family on Monday, June 29, 2015, from 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wings Home, 530 Linn St., Allegan, MI 49010.
