Obituary

Allegan, MI, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Briarwood Assisted Living, Allegan. Mr. Stowell was born Sept. 16, 1915 in Otsego, the son of Prentice and Augusta (Hicklestein) Stowell. He had been employed at Allied Paper for 31 years, retiring in 1980, and had also farmed all his life. He was a highly-decorated veteran, receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, serving in the 32nd Division Red Arrow in the U.S. Army during WWII. Surviving are 1 son, Stephen Stowell and his partner, Evin Croner, of Chicago; 1 sister and her husband, Roxie and Raymond Ellis of Florida; his Allegan kids, Ron and Judy Stark. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 2007 and 1 brother, Lloyd. Friends may meet with the family from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of funeral service at 12 noon Wednesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Pastor Robert Pumfery officiating. Interment Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
