Allegan, MI, died Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. Mendel was born January 24, 1916 in Detroit, MI, the son of Martin and Josephine Mendlewski. He had worked at the CCC Camps in the Upper Peninsula for 6 years and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was an engineer for the City of Detroit for 25 years, working in the Veteran's Memorial Building and the Cobo Arena, retiring in the early 80's. Surviving are 4 children, Mark (Robin Horn) Mendell of Pennsylvania, David (Mary) Mendell of Massachusetts, Matt (Melanie) Mendell of Northville, MI and Martin (Corrina) Mendell of Allegan; 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment in the Church Cemetery. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
