Frances Mae Brown, 82, of Allegan, MI passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at her home. Born November 29, 1936 in Allegan, she was the daughter of the late Irwin and Pauline (Root) Hazen and was the wife of Melvin Wayne Brown. Mrs. Brown had worked for McGowan's Men's Store for many years before going to work for the United States Postal Service, from which she eventually retired. She attended First Congregational Church for many years and was very actively involved with the Congregational Kitchen. Mrs. Brown was an avid golfer. She played for thirty-eight years at Lake Monterey Golf Course. Bowling was another of her favorite past times. She had bowled on many leagues spanning several years and served as the secretary for the youth bowling league for a number of years. Mrs. Brown was an active participant in her community. She served on several boards and committees, including the Allegan Area Credit Union Board of Directors, the Township Board of Review and the Election Board. In her spare time, Mrs. Brown loved to spend time tending to her flower garden. In addition to her husband of sixty-five years, Melvin, she is survived by her children, Robert W. Brown (Deb Scurio), William P. Brown (Brenda Thomas) and Dorothy A. (Mark) Mitchell; seven grandchildren, Katie (Kenny) Pohlman, Leia (Chris) Middaugh, Loren Brown, Cory Brown (Ashlea McNees), Kyler Mitchell, Mariellyn Mitchell and Frannie Mitchell; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Pohlman and Myra Bierling. The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hudson Corners Cemetery.
