Monterey Twp., MI, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003 at his home. Mr. Schafer was born May 29, 1943 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Herman and Ila (Hudson) Schafer. He was a lifelong member of the Monterey community where he was raised on a farm with his parents. Farming was his way of life until he retired and later took up the hobby of crafts to pass the time of day. He loved spending time with his 9 grandchildren, Jessica, R.J., Jennifer, Dylan, Erica, Brandon, Devin, Joshua, and Tyler. Also surviving are his wife of 39 happily married years, Dawn (Christman); 1 daughter, LouAnn (Frank) Collins of Hamilton; 3 sons, Russell Schafer and Steve (Kathy) Schafer all of Allegan, and Rick (Vicki) Schafer of Hamilton. Friends may meet with the family from 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, www.gordenfuneral.com.
