passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Portage. Ethel was born November 11, 1920, in Allegan, the daughter of Edward and Loretta (Welling) Weber. She grew up on the farm at Miner Lake with her seven sisters. Ethel married Emmett "Jack" Flynn and together they lovingly raised their six children and cherished their grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Apple". They shared fond memories of traveling together. Ethel was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Altar Society. She graduated from Allegan High School, Class of 1937. She volunteered many hours cooking for the Catholic School. She shared her passion for reading, cooking, gardening, walking, nature, Lake Michigan, orchard visits, beach days, and Michigan's bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables with her children and grandchildren. Multiple physical problems drastically changed her life style the last few years. She faced these challenges with her never ending faith, sense of humor and smile. She will always be an inspiration to her loved ones. Ethel is survived by her children Jacklynn (Walter) Pickett, Madison, CT, Michael (Evelyn) Flynn, Kalamazoo, MI, Nancy (Thomas) Arbut, St. Joseph, MI, Richard (Linda) Flynn, Allegan, MI, John (Colleen) Flynn, Portage, MI, Sarah (Joel) Jewett, Kalamazoo, MI. Grandchildren, Walter (Corrrine) Pickett II, Sean Pickett, Nathan (Martha) Pickett, Christopher (Jennifer) Pickett, Nolan Flynn, Jack Flynn, Bryan Arbut, Kristin (Bradley) Kish, James Flynn, Meagan Flynn and Daniel Flynn, Great Grandchildren, Caroline Pickett, Madeline Pickett, Emmett Pickett, Samuel Pickett, Brayden Kish, Adeline Kish, Molly Kish and sisters Rita (Jack) Allerding, Mary (Jerry) Holthof and Margaret (William) Bailey. She is also survived by nieces and nephews that each held a special place in her heart. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett "Jack" Flynn, her sisters, Florence (Howard) Haas, Dorothy ( Alfred) Opas, Evelyn (Robert) Swope, and Lois (James) O'Connell. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 5-7 pm, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 5 pm. Memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Friday at 11 am at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Rev Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment at the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Masses. We would like to extend our gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Tendercare of Portage, especially Tina and Julie.
