Allegan, MI, age 102, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Heritiage Community in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Berry was born May 28, 1906 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Alwardt) Seedorff. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1923 and the University of Chicago in 1931 with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree. She received her teaching certificate from Western MI Univ. She was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and later taught at Plainwell Public Schools. She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegan in 1937, where she served in many areas, including Sunday School teacher and Elder. She was also active with the Allegan County Fair as organizer and teacher in the old-time school house. Surviving are her loving family, 2 children, Ellen (Dr. Robert) Riekse of Grand Rapids and George (Linda) Berry of Portage; grandchildren, Jon (Amy) Riekse of Grand Ledge, Dr. Robert (Rev. Rebecca) Riekse of Grand Rapids, Tim (Heidi) Berry of Carmel, IN, Debra (Ted) Campbell of Asheville, NC, step-grandson, David (Emily) Wilson of Kalamazoo; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George H. Berry, in 1994, and 2 sisters, Ava Murray and Ethel Holmberg. Friends may meet with the family from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of funeral services at 12 noon Saturday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Rev. Rebecca Riekse officiating.
