Erika Katherina Grentz, 74, of Cheshire Twp., Allegan, Michigan died Monday, August 13, 2007, at her home after a seven year battle with ovarian cancer. Erika was born July 11, 1933 to Peter and Karoline Berner in Erdevik, Yugoslavia, and immigrated to the United States in December of 1951. Erika was a member of the Gobles-Pinedale Seventh-day Adventist Church. She spent her whole nursing career at Allegan General Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She enjoyed flower gardening, especially roses, and her yard was featured in the Allegan Garden Tour. Even though she loved flowers, her family was the garden that she most enjoyed cultivating. She lived for her children and grandchildren! She was known for her friendly, hospitable and giving ways. Her courage and faith, especially during her illness, were an incredible inspiration to those whom she encountered. Missing her greatly, but looking forward to being reunited with her at the resurrection when Jesus returns, are her husband of 53 years, Pastor Edmund Grentz of Allegan, MI; her four children, daughter, Gudrun Mahrle of Allegan, MI, and her children, Derrick and Darrell, son, Dietmar (Tracey) Grentz, M.D., of Andover, MN and their children, Janelle, Brandon, Ryan, Noelle and Carmen, daughter, Gerhild (Tom) Ulrich of St. Joseph, MI, and their children, Raymond and Erik, son, Daniel (Ruth) Grentz, D.V.M., of Nashville, MI and their children, Shadrach, Leah and Katherina; her brother, Richard Berner of Warren, MI; her stepsister, Eunice (Bill) Wagner of Basking Ridge, NJ; her stepbrother, David Denninger of Sarasota, FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Berner, her mother, Karoline (Berner, Swinyar) Denninger, and her brother, Norbert Berner. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, www.gordenfuneral.com. The funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 17, at 3 p.m. at the Gobles-Pinedale Seventh-day Adventist Church, 32146 6th Ave., Gobles, MI 49055 (corner of 6th Ave. and M-40). Interment will follow the service at Lindsley Cemetery, Cheshire Twp.
