Hopkins, MI, went to his new home with the Lord Jesus Thursday, June 26, 2003 at home with his loving wife and family at his side, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Mr. Bormet was born March 17, 1920 in Tinley Park, IL, the son of Carl and Natalie (Brietbarth) Bormet. He was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Lorraine (LaLonde) on August 24, 1946. He loved baseball and pitched for the Chicago White Sox Minor League from 1938-1942. He had farmed in Orland Park, IL for 40 years, retiring and moving to Hopkins in 1989. He was a member of the Hopkins Community Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; 8 children, Linda (Jerry) Gast of Manhattan, IL, Mike (Joan) Bormet of Allegan, MI, Maryann (Steve) Slater of Lemont, IL, Becky (Frank) Land of Bolingbrook, IL, David (Mary) Bormet of Chanahon, IL, Melanie (Rob) Cronk of Washington, IL, Peter (Barb) Bormet of Florida and Jeannie (Mike) Hull of Crete, IL; 21 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; 2 brothers and 1 sister, Carl (Irene) Bormet, Robert (Iona) Bormet, all of Tinley Park, IL and Gertrude (Melvin) DeValk, of Mt. Vernon, IL; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rose, in Jan. 2003 and a grandson, Nathaniel Gast in 1977. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. Pastor Thomas Newton officiating.
