Elma Strandt, 91 of Plainwell, formerly of Allegan, died Thursday, January 24, 2002 at Life Care Center of Plainwell. Mrs. Standt was born November 12, 1910 in Hamilton, MI the daughter of Herbert and Nellie (Carson) Huggins. She graduated from Plainwell High School and Allegan County Normal and taught school for a number of years. She retired in 1972 as Deputy Register of Deeds for Allegan County. Mrs. Strandt was a member of the United Methodist Church in Allegan and the oldest living member of the Women's History Class. She had married Howard Strandt on January 7, 1933 and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1998. Surviving are 3 children, Charlie Strandt of Plainwell, Dean & Sally Strandt of Plymouth, Charlene & Benny Baker of Plainwell, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were her parents, stepmother, Mary Huggins, and twin brothers, Lewis and Willis. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where services will be held Tuesday 11:00 am. Pastor Joseph Spackman officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's History Class.
