Allegan, MI, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Mrs. van Melle was born November 13, 1919 in Allegan, the daughter of Harry and Irene (Kent) Johnson. She was a life member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She graduated from Allegan High School in 1937, and went on to graduate from Bronson School of Nursing. Betty was an RN and worked for Dr. Mahan for many years. She also worked along side her husband and son at the van Melle Studio for many years. Surviving are her son Craig; 2 grandsons, Brad and Jud; cousin, Bob and Marge Rowe of Portage. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, February 1, 2007. Bob and Betty had visitation on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services were held for Bob and Betty at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan on Monday at 11:00 am. Pastor Ron Bessert officiated. Interment at the Church Cemetery, Watson Twp. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
