of Allegan. Passed away Friday, November 25, 2011. Age 92 years. She was born August 1, 1919, the daughter of the late Otto and Martha (Hemstra) Roltsch. She was married to Edward Schwennesen Jr.; he preceded her in death. Together, they owned and operated Pine Plains Nursery and Christmas Tree Plantation in Allegan. She attended First Presbyterian Church. Betty was a very strong and generous person who enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and baking cinnamon rolls. Surviving are her son, Alan (Kathy) Schwennesen of Wayland; a daughter-in-law, Jean Schwennesen of Allegan; three grandchildren, Jeff (Laura) Schwennesen of Whitmore Lake, Mark (Michelle) Schwennesen of Wyoming and David Schwennesen of Allegan; five great-grandchildren, Amber Schwennesen, Nick Schwennesen, Holly Schwennesen, Matt Schwennesen and Claire Schwennesen; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Lee Schwennesen; and her sister, Ottie Jane Hagadon. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011 at the funeral chapel. Pastor Karen Fitz La Barge will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.
