Hopkins, MI, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 7, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Mrs. Schwartz was born October 2, 1924 in Grand Rapids, one of seven daughters of Charles and Martha (Zuidema) Feenstra. She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School in 1942 . She loved her family and had numerous hobbies and interests, including hunting, fishing, baking, bowling, and travel with friends and family. She spent most of her adult life in Hopkins, working alongside her husband on the dairy farm. She also served as secretary for the Hopkins School Board. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Otsego and New Life Lutheran Church in Sebring, FL, where they had wintered for 20 years. Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Elwood, whom she married April 13, 1946; she is remembered by her children, Bette and Jim Stewart of Florida, David Schwartz of Hopkins and Shirley and Rob Smith of Virginia; 1 daughter-in-law, Cindy (Howard) Hunt of Otsego; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Jayne and Bud VanderMale and Sue Bos, all of Grand Rapids, Marjorie Farhat of Buchanan, and Gloria and Howard Vos of Byron Center; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard, and 2 sisters, Gertrude Cornelisse and Charlotte Rogell. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church, Otsego. Pastors Jason Thiel and Mark Gieschen officiating. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, Faith Hospice in Trillium Woods, or New Life Lutheran Church, Sebring, FL.
