Obituary

Sweet, Edwin J., age 75, of Allegan, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Alamo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Alamo Township. Mr. Sweet was born March 27, 1941 in Milton Township, Michigan, the son of the late Clarence and Alice (Prolo) Sweet. Ed was a U.S. Veteran of the Navy, serving during the Vietnam War, where he also became a golden glove boxer. He was very dedicated to his country and went on to also become a U.S. Veteran of the Army. Ed married the love of his life, Lulu, on Valentine's Day in 1976 and they went on to raise their family together. He worked for over 20 years at the Parker Hannifin Corporation - Brass Division in Otsego. Ed was a wonderful storyteller and would share stories of his adventures with his family, who loved to hear his animated tales. He had a love for woodworking and would also spend time painting and drawing. He had a special knack at making things come alive and being creative whether it be his stories or his art. Although he enjoyed his hobbies, there was nothing he loved more than his grandchildren. He was very proud of them and treasured his time with them. Ed is survived by his children: Ronnie and Deb Sweet, Shelly Sweet, Amy Rinehart, Katie and Dave Verploegh; many grandchildren; three brothers: Norm Sweet, Alvin Sweet and Chuck and Christie Sweet; and one sister, Wanita and Rich Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille "Lulu" Sweet. There will be a private graveside service and interment at Mt. Home Cemetery in Otsego.
