Obituary

of Kalamazoo, formerly of Allegan, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Heritage Community, Wyndham West in Kalamazoo. Pat was born July 25, 1921, in McBain, Michigan, the daughter of the late Peter and Winnie (Laarman) Bogard. She graduated from McBain High School, Class of 1938, and received both her BA and MA from Western Michigan University in Education. Pat taught school for over 29 years, including at a one-room schoolhouse and 22 years in Allegan at South Ward and Pine Trails schools. Her God, her family, and education were her priorities. She loved to quilt, play Bridge, Scrabble, and Pepper, read, knit, and share her delicious recipes with family. Her quiet kindness touched and inspired all she knew, and she was gracious, humble, and tenacious. She was a past member of the Presbyterian Church in Allegan, and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portage. Surviving are her 3 children: Thomas and Sarah Leavens, Nancy and Eric Andersen, Sharon Cannon and Brian Hanson; 9 grandchildren: Justin and Jennifer Leavens, Mary and Mike Hoyland, Emily Leavens, Molly Leavens, Brandon Andersen, Kris and Christie Andersen, Miggon and Brent Wilson, Tom and Susan Cannon, Shawn and Krista Cannon; 11 great grandchildren: Payton, Sadie, Elexia, Tristan, Riley, Chase, Marissa, Caleb, Charlotte, Henry, Grace; 2 brothers: Jerry and Gertrude Bogard, Lee and Harriet Bogard, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and 2 brothers, Maurice and Paul. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2 pm, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1515 Helen Ave., Portage, MI 49002. Private interment in Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Twp. Memorials may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or the Heritage Community, Wyndham West. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
