Obituary

of Monterey Township. Went to be with her Lord on December 22, 2011. Age 80 years. She was born January 1, 1931, the daughter of the late Charles and Zita (Cram) Taylor. She leaves behind a legacy of love and learning. She was married to Andrew Mays on August 27, 1949; he preceded her in death on December 6, 2005. Mo is survived by her two children, Mary Anna Strickfaden of Burnips and Ricky Andrew (Brenda) Mays of Burnips; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Shirley) Schulz, Benjamin (Sarah) Schulz, Samuel Adams Schulz, Angela Cameruci (Brad), Katherine Strickfaden, Andrew J. (Traci) Strickfaden, Charney Kappell, Adam (Ali) Mays, Betsy (Brad) Berens, Danielle Mays; 15 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Robert, Ian Schulz, Tyler, Meghan, Brady and Trent Schulz, JR, Cameron and Carson Cameruci, Hadley and Baby Strickfaden, Baby Mays, Cal, Garret and Kansas King. Doris is also survived by four siblings, Darlene Leonardson, Irene (Lee) Wilson, Tim (Ruth) Taylor, Linda (Hershel) Bennett. Preceding her in death was her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea Sue and Gordon Schulz, son-in-law, John Stickfaden. Doris will be greatly missed by not only her family and friends, but by the hundreds of students and their families she has touched as a teacher for 36 years, teaching in a one-room school for 18 years and in Hopkins Public Schools thereafter. She also served with various education related programs and boards. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Burnips United Methodist Church. Pastors Ric Fritz and Tony Shumaker will officiate with burial in Poplar Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wayland Area EMS.
