Obituary

89, formerly of Allegan, passed away on March 28, 2013 at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born October 10, 1923 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Fred and Alberta (Baxter) Perkins. Don served honorably during WWII with the 975th Engineering Maintenance Battalion. His outfit supported the troops in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany until VE day. The 975th then sailed to the Philippines where they were to take part in the invasion of Japan had it been necessary. Don was very proud of having served in both the European and Pacific theaters of war. After the war, he married Hazel May Barton and they were together until her death in 1993. They had four sons, the eldest died in 1999, the next two died at birth and the youngest, Dave, currently resides in Gulfport, FL. Don loved playing golf and cards with friends and family. He led a good and active life and leaves behind his son Dave Perkins, Dave's partner Kendra Fox and his grand-daughter, Alex Hancock. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel and his three oldest sons. The world is poorer for his departure but heaven is enriched by his arrival. I love you Dad - Dave. A Memorial Service and inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being made by Gorden Funeral Residence.
