Donald S. Olsen, 80 of Plainwell, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. Mr. Olsen was born June 2, 1923 in Stanton, MI the son of Sofus and Pearl (Hayes) Olsen. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1941 and then joined the U.S. Navy where he served 27 years retiring in 1968. Don then owned and operated Culligan Water Conditioning in Allegan from 1971 until 1988. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, and enjoyed traveling and animals. Surviving are his wife Darlene; 6 children, Linda & Jeff Weber of Los Angeles, CA, Chris & Mary Olsen of Wildomar, CA, Barbara Decker of Boise, ID, Peggy & Bruce Hinshaw of Portland, OR, Donald & Darla Olsen of Boone, NC, Peter & Debra Olsen of Allegan; 15 grandchildren; 6 step children; 7 step grandchildren; 1 sister, Marguerite & John Zachel of Morenci. He was preceded by his wife, Marilyn in 1998, 1 brother and 1 sister. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A family graveside will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
