of Allegan, Michigan, died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at his home. Mr. Gutheil was born February 12, 1925, in West New York, New Jersey, the son of Richard and Daisy (Solfleish) Gutheil. He grew up in Saugerties, New York, in the heart of his beloved Catskill Mountains. He proudly served in the United States Army, serving in WWII, and was at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was injured 3 months later and earned a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge. Don retired as a manufacturing engineer in 1984, having worked for Ferroxcube in Kingston, New York, and for Milton Bradley in Springfield, Massachusetts. Don was able to fix anything, if he did not have a part, he made it. He was the family plumber, electrician, carpenter, auto mechanic, HVAC, and refrigerator repairman for many years. He loved barbershop singing and sang with quartets and choruses in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Holland and Kalamazoo Michigan. He was an especially skilled driver, but willingly gave up after he had a stroke and felt he could no longer drive safely. He read copiously and quickly, putting away a paperback in a single night. Surviving are his wife, Sally Trabulsi, his son, Richard and Angie Gutheil, his daughter, Diane and David Morse, stepdaughters, Carol Moore and Jennie Trabulsi, grandchildren, Kristina, Jennifer, Ian, Dan and Jeff, great grandchildren, Christopher, Max, Anthony and Mia. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig, sister, Elyse Fous, and stepdaughter, Peggy Trabulsi Accrino. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Allegan, on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2 pm.
