Calkins, Donald Albert, age 92, passed away at his home in Allegan on April 17, 2016 with his wife of over 63 years, Annie, by his side. Don was born in Highwood, Michigan to Harold and Mildred (MacArthur) Calkins on January 20, 1924. Having moved to Allegan in 1939, Don enlisted in the Marines on December 10, 1942 and served until October 19, 1945. He graduated from Allegan High School class of 1943 in absentia. Don graduated from Western Michigan University in 1949 and taught High School in St. Louis, Michigan. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. After moving to Dearborn, Michigan he taught at Fordson High School and Henry Ford Community College. He continued his education and received his law degree from Wayne State University in 1958. He took a position in the Criminal Justice Department at Wayne State University in 1965 until his retirement in 1987. During that time, Don also had a private law practice. Don and Annie enjoyed their winters in Bradenton, Florida and summers at their cottage on Lake Michigan, after their retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Lucille Calkins, sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Robert Moore and brother-in-law William Nahikian. Surviving Don are his wife, Annie, his sister, Jane Nahikian and his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Gwen Calkins and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. At Don's request, there will not be a service. The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
