Donald Eugene "Donnie" "Pops" Byers, 71, of Allegan, MI passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Born February 4, 1949 in Kenton, OH, he was the son of the late Claude Elbert and Carolyn May (Long) Byers and was the husband of Wendy Barbara Byers. Don had worked for Kenton Public Schools for twenty-five years prior to retirement. He was a longtime member of Allegan Assembly of God Church. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Pastor Paul Hays and Pastor Tim Heath for always being present to provide comfort throughout this difficult time. They would also like to thank the Bloomingdale Meadow Woods Nursing Home for their love and care over the last few years. Don loved football and wrestling. He was affectionately known as "Coach Don" and could always be counted on to be the most enthusiastic in the stands cheering for his team. Don also loved playing bingo, coloring and dogs. In addition to his wife of twenty years, Don is survived by his children, Angela (Dan) Ellis, David Harper (fiancé Adreanne), Ronnie (Jen) Ewing and Randy (Vanessa) Ewing; siblings, Barbara Jo (Richard) Byers, Faye (Allan) Mitchell and Thomas (Peggy) Byers; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Willy Harper; and his brother, Rick Byers. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be at a later date at the Allegan Assembly of God Church.
