age 87, of Allegan, MI, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility. Mrs. Smythe was born August 9, 1917 in Roslyn, SD, the daughter of Carl Odell and Clara C.(Stave) Olson. Mrs. Smythe loved the Lord, and singing, and was always active in her church. She also enjoyed family gatherings and often prepared special Norwegian dishes. She was an avid gardener and flowers always filled her home. As a young woman, she and her sisters formed and sang in a well-known quartet. When her children went off to college, she enjoyed her work at the Benton Harbor Kmart as the Jewelry Manager. Her husband, Eliot, was the VP and Secretary for Appliance Buyers Credit Corp., the finance company for Whirlpool. Surviving are 2 children, Thomas and Tanya Smythe of Allegan and Edris and Masanori Takeda of Middleville; 2 grandchildren, Caitlin and Colin Smythe; 2 sisters, Helen Westby of Sisseton, SD and Lucille Newcomb of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eliot D. Smythe Nov. 29, 1977; brothers, Orville, Omar, Russell, Carl and Mert; sister, Edris Sims. There will be no services.
