Diane Whitt, 65, of Gobles, Michigan passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan, after an 11 year battle with Sjogren's Syndrome, liver cirrhosis, and kidney disease. Ms. Whitt was born on March 1, 1951 in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of the late Theodore and Marian (Douglas) Whitt. Diane was a person that cared about people and proved it through her career choices. For 15 years, she served as a paramedic for Allegan County and loved using her skills to help others. She then went on to work in the Gobles Schools as a nurse for 6 years before getting her Medical Assistant certification and working in various medical offices throughout the Van Buren and Kalamazoo county areas. Diane's interests outside of work consisted of counter-cross stitching and making jewelry, which she usually gave away as gifts, but now and then she would have to keep a piece for herself to enjoy. One of her favorite past-times was spending time at Lake Michigan. The only issue was getting others to stay at the beach as long as she wanted to stay! Time spent with her family and friends was cherished time to Diane. Getting opportunities to camp together, go to different events or just share a meal and laughter were always bright spots in her life. Another highlight that she looked forward to was watching her daughter and granddaughter dance on stage and perform in marching band. During the struggles with her health, Diane proved that she was a strong woman, resilient and positive while dealing with her pain and ailments. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and will remain in their hearts forever. Diane is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Will Brooks; her granddaughter, Kieanna; her sister, Shirley Whitt; and several nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Whitt and Marian (Douglas) Whitt-Richardson; her brother, James Whitt; her stepfather, George Richardson; and several aunts and uncles. A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 24 from 4-6pm at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Memorials may be made in Diane's name to ASPCA at ASPCA Gift Processing Center, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20077-7127 (www.aspca.org) or Human Growth Foundation at 997 Glen Cove Avenue, Suite 5, Glen Head, New York 11545 (www.hgfound.org).
