of Grand Rapids, formerly of Newberry, went to her heavenly home on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Beacon Hill at Eastgate in Grand Rapids. Delta was born January 1, 1914 in Laketon, Michigan, the daughter of William and Ada (French) Ney. She was a graduate of Newberry High School and worked for the Newberry State Hospital for 30 years as a psychiatric nurse. In 1934 Delta married James Perry and raised their family in Newberry. She gave her heart and life to Jesus as a young adult and spent her days loving and serving Him. She was a longtime member of the 1st Baptist Church in Newberry and later at Calvary Baptist in Grand Rapids. She loved flowers, music and painting, but most of all, her family. She is survived by her 2 children, Fred and Doris Perry of Allegan and Patricia and Dr. Merle Schmidt of CA, 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Phyllis Ahlich and Paula and Jerry Cronan all of St. Ignace and Carol and Floyd Howdyshell of Ithaca, 1 sister-in-law, Ethel Ney of McMillan, 1 daughter-in-law, Denise Perry of Grand Rapids, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, son Gerald, her granddaughter, Renee Ouellette, her grandson, Steven Perry, 8 brothers, Guy, Elmer, Donald, Earl, Harold, Gerald, Bill and Kenneth, and her sister, Muriel Painter. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2 pm at Beacon Hill at Eastgate in Grand Rapids, for the residents and friends. Chaplains Virgil Bopp and Bruce Sabados will officiate. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday from 11am until service time at 12 noon at Kentwood Baptist Church on 52nd St. and Breton. Pastor Tim Perry will officiate. Interment will take place in East Lakefield Cemetery, McMillan, MI on Friday, May 8 at 2 p.m. Immediately following the graveside service a luncheon will be served at the First Baptist Church in Newberry.
