Della Irene Miller, 88, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Wings Home in Allegan. Born March 5, 1930 in Trowbridge Township, MI, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Adrian Myers and Lois Mary Sweet. On August 24, 1946 she married Bert Miller, Jr. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2017. Mrs. Miller was a member of Trowbridge United Methodist Church since she was a little girl and sang in the church choir. She was a dedicated mother who loved being involved in the lives of her children and, later, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller loved to travel and go camping all over the United States. She also enjoyed dancing, especially with her late husband. When her children were young, Mrs. Miller was a Den Mother for their Brownies Troops and would sew clothes for the girls' Barbie dolls. She had several other interests and hobbies, including listening to music, word searches and other puzzles, and playing cards. As an avid gardener, Mrs. Miller took pride in harvesting and canning her crops each year. She will be fondly remembered for her fabulous cooking and her desire to care for others. Mrs. Miller is survived by her children, Judy Smalla, Danny Miller and wife Frances, Linda Thompson and husband Thomas and Debra McCarty and husband Wallace; grandchildren, Scott, Laurie, David, Chrisanne, Andrew, Lori, Kris, Mellissa, Nancy, David and Adam; great-grandchildren, Iris, Danny, Nevaeh, Drew, Jessica, Amanda, Michael, Kaden, Maya, Cole, Bowen, Aston, Dieter, Olivia, Nolan, Avery and Caleb; great-great-grandchildren, Peyton, Asa, Layla and Lucas; siblings, Bertha Miller, George Myers, Eugene Myers, Les Myers, Marion Myers, Lucille Myers and Kathleen Groth; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Smalla; brothers, Vernon Myers, Larry Myers and Clifford Myers; siblings-in-law, Robert Miller, Lawrence Miller, Dorothy James, Helen Young, Donna Harter and William Groth; grandchildren, Timothy Smalla and Jacob McCarty; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Crofoot. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. A funeral service will take place Thursday at 11:00 AM at Trowbridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Trowbridge United Methodist Church or Wings of Hope Hospice are suggested. Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
