Allegan Twp., MI, died Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Marquette General Hospital. Mrs. Hitchcock was born June 11, 1931 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Maynard and Vera (Brundage) Youngs. She graduated from WMU in 1960 with a degree in teaching and taught in the elementary schools. She had also worked in Allegan for many years as a social worker and was an accomplished musician. She, and her husband, loved to travel and enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and the United States, and spent many summers at their cabin in Gladwin. Surviving are her husband Gerald, whom she married Feb. 16, 1973; 5 children and their spouses, Gary and Cindy Midling of Indiana, Diane and Chip Grandgenett of Texas, Cheryl and Chris Delach and Daniel and Marti Hitchcock all of Allegan, and Pamela and Robert Forsyth of Rockford; 12 grandchildren, Melanie, Bailey, Tim, Eagan, Amber, Otto, Crystal, David, Michael, Becky, Tara, and Josh; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, William and Nona Youngs of Delton; 1 sister, Margaret and James Lamson of Plainwell; 1 sister-in-law, Jeannine Youngs of Parchment; many nieces and nephews, and Gerald's 9 brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, and a grandson, Brady Hitchcock. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Pastor Joseph Phipps officiating. Interment at a later date in Millgrove Cemetery, Valley Twp., MI. Mrs. Hitchcock was an organ donor and memorial contributions may be made to Gift of Life.
