Valley Twp., Allegan, MI, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at his home. Mr. Dettling was born November 24, 1929 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Russell and Elizabeth (Cavanaugh) Dettling. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps and had been employed as an auto mechanic. Surviving are his wife, Margaret (Fisher); 2 children and their spouses, Doris Anne and David Melotti of Portage and Paul and Stacey Dettling of Dorr; 3 grandchildren, David, Kevin and Jessica; 2 brothers and their wives, Patrick and Joann Dettling and Richard and Sharon Dettling, all of Clinton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Daniel G. and Robert R., 2 brothers, Thomas and Lawrence, and 2 sisters, Dolores Dettling and Jeanne McGonagle. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.
