Cyrus Grover Athearn, 84, of Allegan, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at his home. Mr. Athearn was born in Petoskey, Michigan on March 23, 1931, the son of the late Charles W. and Cleo (Croff) Athearn. Cyrus was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his working career as a machinist at several area factories. Cyrus loved spending time on the computer and learning new things from the various sites he would come across. He also occupied his time woodworking, making tables and other beautiful pieces of furniture for himself and others. Cyrus is survived by his 5 children: Lynn Gilbert, Dennis and Lisa Athearn, Penny and Darl Evans, Debbie and Albert Christman, Connie and James Lewis; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Maryellen and Ed Owens, Beverly and Peter Hambicki. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela; 2 sisters: Donna and Trellis; 1 granddaughter, Megan March; and 1 great-grandson, Ronnie Moline IV. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 3rd at the Allegan Christian Center (700 Ely Street, Allegan), Pastor Paul Knuckles officiating. Interment at Hudson Corners Cemetery.
