of Oscoda, MI, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, Kalamazoo. Mr. Gildersleeve was born on the Fourth of July, 1951 in Standish, the son of Wayne (Bud) and Marian (Couture) Gildersleeve. He led a full life as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy, and then as a Systems Analyst, with the Department of Treasury. After retiring from federal service he rediscovered his true love, the outdoors. Cory grew up in Oscoda, where his family enjoyed the Au Sable River area. The simple beauty of nature, particularly in forests and oceans was always a great pleasure for Cory, so it was only natural that he should retire to Oscoda. He was an avid birder, scuba instructor, nature photographer and always ready to learn or share his wisdom. Surviving are his son Scott (Lori) Gildersleeve and daughter Amanda (Jeremiah) Johnson; 7 grandchildren; sister, Lynn (Mick) Francis. Cory was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jeanne (Heinz), and sister, Sherry Gildersleeve. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery, Oscoda Twp., with a celebration of Cory's life to follow at Wiltse's Restaurant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Au Sable Valley Audubon, Michigan Audubon or charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel.
