Clifford D. Commissaris, 84, of Heath Township, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at his home. Mr. Commissaris was born in Salem Township, Michigan on October 20, 1931, the son of the late Abram and Henrietta (Kuiper) Commissaris. Clifford was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He worked for Harglo Construction for over 20 years, from where he retired. Clifford was instrumental in helping to build the Dunningville Church in Allegan, where he also volunteered his time and talents assisting the Ramp Ministry. In the winters, Clifford would plow the church parking lot and during the other seasons you would see him out mowing the lawn. He was a kind, caring husband and father as well as a friend to so many. Clifford is survived by his loving wife, Thelma; their three children: Christy Matthews, Sharon and Allen Lynema, and Lori Commissaris; five grandchildren: Rebecca and Brandon Gillies, Adam and Sarah Lynema, Aaron and Rebecca Lynema, Jeremy Matthews, and Elizabeth Matthews; six great-grandchildren: Brayden, Addelyn, Alexander, Madison, Alice and Lydia; two brothers: Ronald and Carol Commissaris, and Robert and Nancy Commissaris; two sisters: Jean and Roger Kamphuis, and Harriet and Jerry Nickrent; two sister-in-laws: Jacque Commissaris and Norma Dozeman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Abram Commissaris and Jim Commissaris; one sister, Evelyn; and one son-in-law, Mark Matthews. Friends may meet with the family from 2-5 pm on Sunday, March 6th at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7th at 11 am at the Dunningville Reformed Church, Pastor Chris Timmer officiating. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Assoc. of W.
