Allegan Twp., Michigan, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at his home. Mr. Smith was born August 13, 1927 in Kalamazoo, the son of Jack and Jessie Smith. He was a 1945 graduate of Kalamazoo Central and had been an Eagle Scout. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. He had worked in Allegan, Kalamazoo, Jackson and Lansing for Consumers Power, retiring in 1987. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Walters); 4 children and their spouses, Steve and Debbie Smith of Lansing, Marsha and Keith Behm of Allegan, Melinda and John Mount of Paw Paw, and Scott and Sarah Smith of Hamilton; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Donna Smith and Russ Winquist of Portage, and Judy Corwin of Chelsea. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, LaMarr and Stan. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Family and friends will preside over the service. Contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or West Michigan Cancer Center.
