Claire Michael Zollars, 9, of Allegan, MI passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026 surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Born May 22, 2016 in Mikado, MI, Claire was one of ten in a litter born to Leela and Tyler. Adorned with her bright yellow collar and arguably the plumpest of the bunch, she made an instant connection with Vivian when the Zollars family came to visit the puppies to see if there was one that would make a good addition to their home. A few short weeks later, the roly-poly puppy came home with Tim, Theresa and Vivian and their family was complete. She would become Claire Michael Zollars, the middle name a long standing Zollars family tradition started by her late grandpa Jack (Claire being the first female in a line of male companions to have proudly held the name before her).

After a period of training, and a bit of growing up, Claire joined the staff at Gorden Funeral Residence and Chappell Funeral Home. Officially she was given the title of “Grief Therapy Dog”. Unofficially, however, Claire was often the “Door Greeter”, “Lunch Taster”, “Chief Morale Officer” and all-around “Good Girl in Charge”. When not on duty, nothing was more thrilling for her than playing a rousing round of b-a-l-l (always spelled, though we’re certain she knew what we meant). Each morning started with ball and coffee in the garage with Tim; a routine that is already missed deeply. Claire loved her ball collection so intently that she often would fall asleep with one still in her mouth and another in the bed beside her.

Along with her family at home, Claire is survived by many extended family members who loved her very much; her Gorden and Chappell family; and many friends that she’s had the honor of meeting through her time working at the funeral homes.
