Chester M. Stryker, Sr., 85 of Allegan, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility. Mr. Stryker was born June 18, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA the son of Chester Louis and Margaret (Van'Zylin) Stryker. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS George. He was an Engineering Supervisor at Chrysler for 30 years retiring in 1979. He also taught Electrical Engineering and Refrigeration at Cass Technical Institute in Detroit. After retiring he and his wife spent many years doing volunteer work for Allegan County Social Services and Christian Neighbors. He was very involved in Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Post # 89 and the 40et8. Surviving are his wife Laura; 8 children, Marty & Carolyn Stryker, Jim & Joyce Stryker, Bill & Yvonne Meyer, Beverly Stamper, Kathy Cameron, Steve Meyer, Karen & Bill Cain, and Barbara & Russ Pelgram; 1 son-in-law, John & Karen Wezner; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Nancy Thiell, Ann Lang, Retta & Bob Parks, Netta & Tom Thiell; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Ann Stryker, daughter, Susan Wezner, 2 grandsons and a brother, Frank Stryker. The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the GORDEN FUNERAL RESIDENCE, Allegan Chapel, where a Rosary will held at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Watson. Rev. Fr. Robert Johansen celebrant. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Wings of Hope Hospice, Allegan County.
