Obituary

Cherish Denae Powers 38 of Allegan, MI passed away on January 1, 2025, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI after a short battle with Cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). Cherish was born in Grand Rapids Michigan on December 21, 1986, to Rachele Toliver and Melvin Stevenson. She was also a member of the Pokagon Band of Pottawatomi Tribe, and she was very proud and passionate of her heritage. She was a bright, passionate, fun-loving women and was always full of life. She welcomed everyone she met with open arms and treated everyone like they were family. In 2014 Cherish met Dan Powers the love of her life and they were later married on August 7th, 2015. Cherish and Dan began their life together and enjoyed doing activities as a family, she especially loved Halloween, and they would always dress up as a family and go trick or treating. She would always point out that the decorations and lights that she saw, was like that Holiday throwing up on everything. Cherish loved her family very much and they were her greatest joy. Cherish was a devoted wife and mother to 3 beautiful children. She loved being a mother, she said it was the best job ever. Cherish also had a great love of batman and pickles and she bestowed that love on to her kids, they all loved to sit around and eat pickles all day long and they would probably eat them as the only meal if they were allowed.

Cherish also had a huge love for movies, especially horror. If it was up to her, it would've been Halloween all year round. She loved the outdoors and all the activities that came along with that whether it was hunting, fishing or swimming in the pool like a mermaid, she always made it fun for all involved. Cherish also loved her job at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan, MI where she was the Activities Director. She took great pride in her job and enjoyed showing up every day and bringing joy and love to all the residents. She loved coming up with fun activities and games for her residents to participate in and enjoy. She was always the life of any party and at work as well. She always did whatever was needed to put a smile on anyone's face. She had a great way of coming up with ways to make the best out of a bad situation. Her smile was contagious, and it would light up any room.

Cherish was proceeded in death by her brothers Jamey Steffens in 2020, and Michael Stevenson, her Grandfather Mac, Grandpa Oral, Grandma Pat, Grandma Pauline and Grandma Dee Dee.

She is survived by her husband Dan Powers, 3 children Keaton, Danny Jr., and Arianna. Mom Rachele (Jerry) Toliver, Dad Melvin (Teresa) Stevenson, Grandma's Helen Hillman and Shakira Haynes, sisters Tashia Hillman, Ta Neasha Weems, Corrine Prater, Amara Stevenson brothers Melvin Stevenson, Rumeal Stevenson, William Loonsfoot Jr., Grandpa Ron Powers Sr., mother and father in-law Ron and Pat Powers, sister in-law Amanda Powers (Nate Kleeves) as well as aunts, uncles, cousins' nieces and nephews.

Cherish's Memorial Service will be held at the Luella Collins Community Center on Friday, January 10th, from 1:00pm - 2:00pm with an hour visitation beforehand.
