Obituary

Watson Twp., Hopkins, MI, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at her home. Char was born July 5, 1946 in Plainwell, MI, the daughter of George H. and Rose Anna (Talsma) Schulz. She received her teaching certificate, and her master's degree in Public Health, from the Univ. of Hawaii. She then had two years of secretarial education at Western MI Univ. and following received her LPN-RN from Kalamazoo Valley College. She had been employed at the Allegan, Calhoun and Kent County Health Departments, the Borgess Fitness Center, and as an administrator and RN at Mary Free Bed Hospital, as well as working in the Child Amputee Center at Mary Free Bed. Surviving are her husband, Jack; 1 daughter and her husband Lani and Terrence Payne of Grand Rapids; father, George Schulz of Florida; mother, Rose Schulz of Allegan; 1 sister and her husband Gayle and Richard Elsasser of Texas; parents-in-law, Robert and Jean Dailey of Allegan; brother-in-law and his wife, Dean and Gracie Dailey of Plainwell; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Private family services will be held at a later date. Char was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumors in March of 2002. She was treated conventionally for a year with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, until April, 2003, when she was told there were no further treatment options. She and Jack then contacted the Burzynski Clinic in Houston, TX. Char received treatment by amino acids and peptides, which stabilized her disease, but she was not strong enough to overcome. Though Char did not survive, Jack still highly recommends the Burzynski Clinic. They have a wonderful, caring staff and are the only known effective treatment for this terrible disease. From the first day I met Char, I knew she was truly special. She had a sparkle in her eye of honesty and integrity that was unquestionable. Throughout our 20 years together, she was always loving, caring, and a very generous person - never expecting me to be anything but myself. During her career in public health, she was always in a position where she was trying to help people. Having Char for my best friend and companion for the past 20 years, has been truly an honor and a blessing, and has made me a better man. I will love and honor her forever - Jack Dailey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Coalition of America, 9396 Richmond Ave., Suite 307, Houston, TX 77063, in support of the Burzynski Clinic.
