Carl "Eugene" Gilbert, 59 of Allegan, Michigan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Wings Home in Allegan. Born October 8, 1961 in Allegan, Michigan, he was the son of the late Carl and Gertrude (Kerber) Gilbert. Eugene was born a special needs child and his parents and his siblings embraced him and filled their home with love, providing a wonderful and full life for him. Eugene especially enjoyed music. He loved to dance and go to dances with his friends, wearing a fun hat and hamming it up. He seemed to have a knack for playing the keyboard. He was able to hear a song and then would sit at his keyboard and play it. He did a great job! Unfortunately, he only "thought" he could play the guitar - but watching him brought a smile to other's faces. Church was a very important part of Eugene's life and he especially loved praising God with lots of "Amens!" heard loudly through the church. Eugene was involved in the Special Olympics and worked at the workshop next to the Sunset House when it was still open. He was also able to work at the bowling alley and earn time to bowl, which was another of his pleasures. He liked flowers and was very happy when his sister or someone would send him flowers. Though he liked many things, Eugene was a huge Superman fan! He had Superman T-shirts, blankets, pictures. It brought him much joy and those around felt his enthusiasm. Although Eugene was different than a lot of people, he had a wonderful heart and beautiful way of enjoying this life and showing others the beauty around them and the simple pleasures that life brings. Mr. Blue Jean Eugene will be remembered fondly by so many.
Eugene is survived by his brother, Kevin (Ronda) Gilbert; his two sisters, Sharon (Jim) Arra and Linda (Dan) Shaw; many nieces and nephews; as well as his special friends at the Sunset House.
Friends may meet with the family on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 2:00 - 3:00 PM at which time the funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM, Pastor Donald W. Seelhoff officiating.
