IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brian J.
Vanderweide
January 25, 1957 – April 7, 2025
Brian J. VanderWeide, of Allegan, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away April 7, 2025.
He was born January 25, 1957, to Earl and Gladys VanderWeide. Brian graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School in June of 1975. After graduating High School, Brian began working in the construction industry, having worked for CD Barnes Construction for many years before becoming a semi-truck driver.
In his spare time Brian enjoyed tying flies and fly fishing. Reeds Lake and the Rouge River were a couple of his favorite places to fish. Brian was also a big train enthusiast and would spend hours at the railyards in Grand Rapids, just watching the trains come and go and switch tracks.
In April of 1995, he married his wife Lois, and they later moved to Allegan, where he spent a lot of time tinkering in the garage and building a spot in their basement to set up several of his trains, spanning across several "train boards" he had made for himself, complete with tracks, bridges, and towns for the trains to stop in.
After a battle with cancer left Brian unable to work, he found his next favorite pastime. Going to Minnie Sophrona's Restaurant. While he didn't always order from the menu, a hot cup of coffee was sure to be served and enjoyed while in the company of several of "the regulars"
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, and several of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lois (Boysen) VanderWeide, a brother, his 2 stepdaughters, 3 sisters in law, several nieces and nephews, along with 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Per Brian's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
