Obituary

Beverly Huff passed peacefully on August 26, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Marion, Ohio on March 23, 1932, to the late Edna (McNeal) Van Allen and Lloyd Ernest Burke. Beverly was raised and adopted by Lyle and Lita (MacMartin) McNeal.

Bev spent some of her early years at the McNeal farm near Covert, MI. She graduated from high school in 1950 as valedictorian of her class at Cedar Lake Academy in Cedar Lake, Mi. Bev went on to attend Emanuel Missionary College where she met the love of her life, Donald Huff. They married in 1951. Later, she earned her associate's degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1984.

For several years Bev was a stay-at-home mom, but rejoined the work force around 1970, working for Armintrout's, The Flashes and Allegan General Hospital. In 1974 she went to work at the Department of Social Services near Dumont Lake. She was a supervisor for the last 10 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, she and Don traveled extensively, both in the US and abroad. They also frequently attended Operas in Chicago and later jazz festivals in different states.

Bev loved her home and family, especially the holidays. At Christmas we might have Yule Log, Grasshopper pie or German black forest cake. Her eggnog was "To die for" and there was rarely a drop left in the punch bowl.

Bev's talents included playing the violin, piano, and organ. She learned knitting a little later in life and many blankets went to her grandkids. If you stopped to see her, she would usually have a book in hand and was still reading and discussing politics up until recently.

Preceding Bev in death were her husband Don of 73 years; her parents; her siblings: Murlen Van Allen, Albert Van Allen, Charlene (Van Allen) Robertson, John Taylor "Jack" Burke, Jean (Burke) Bloodworth, Darlene (Burke) ward, and Kenneth Burke.

Surviving Bev, are her children; Devryn (Ray) Farnum, Brenda Huff, Erica Huff (Mike Bergholtz) and Kevin (Susan) Huff; Grandchildren: Ravyn Schneider (Scott Wagar), Dyrena (Dennis) Warner, Lydia Huff, and Sander Huff (Cassidy Strormzand); Great grandchildren: Davynn, Drake, Rianon, Cadyn, Arionna, Dennis, Rayden and Dayne. Great great grandchild: Aliah. She also left many nieces and nephews to remember and apricate her. Also surviving are her two sisters, Vesta (Van Allen) McCart and Zelda (Van Allen) Christen.
