Bert Miller, Jr., 98, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Stanford Lodge in Plainwell. Born July 7, 1919 in Otsego, MI, he was the son of the late Burr and Dora Marie (Bouchard) Miller and was the husband of Della Irene Myers, married on August 24, 1946. Mr. Miller was a veteran of World War II. He later went to work for Murray's as a butcher and eventually retired from Rockwell, formerly Blood Brothers, as a machinist. Mr. Miller had many interests including fishing, golfing, dancing, camping and playing cards, which he loved to win. He used his many talents to build the home he and his wife shared for over sixty years. Mr. Miller was a member of the Allegan Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2315 for more than 50 years. He attended Trowbridge United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Miller is survived by his children, Judy Smalla, Danny Miller and wife Frances, Linda Thompson and husband Thomas and Debra McCarty and husband Wallace; grandchildren, Scott, Laurie, David, Chrisanne, Andrew, Lori, Kris, Mellissa, Nancy, David and Adam; great-grandchildren, Iris, Danny, Nevaeh, Drew, Jessica, Amanda, Michael, Kaden, Maya, Cole, Bowen, Aston, Dieter, Olivia, Nolan and Avery; great-great-grandchildren, Peyton, Asa, Layla and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Smalla; siblings, Robert Miller, Lawrence Miller, Dorothy James, Helen Young and Donna Harter; brothers-in-law, Vernon Myers and Larry Myers; grandchildren, Timothy Smalla and Jacob McCarty; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Crofoot. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. A funeral service will take place Saturday at 11:00 AM at Trowbridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to Trowbridge United Methodist Church, Hospice of Southwest Michigan or The Wounded Warrior Project are suggested.
