of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Magnum Care Nursing Home in Hastings. Mr. Mathews was born September 14, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Eugene and Louise (Price) Mathews. Surviving are his wife: Dorothy "Dottie"; 5 children: Gavin and Rachel Mathews, Carl and Danyel Long, Chance and Kim Mathews, Kellie and Chuck Brooks, Kristie and James Willis; 15 grandchildren: Evan Douglas, Dakota, Devin, Drew, Alana, Ansleigh, Wyatt, Joe, Andrea, Anthony, Michael, Matt, Makey, Andrew; 1 great granddaughter: Ayla; 3 brothers and 3 sisters; his mother-in-law: Jo Brand; 4 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joann and Wayne Carpenter, Raymond and Rhea Brand, Bill and Carol Brand, Tom and Martha Brand; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Andy Brand. Friends may meet with the family on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held of Saturday at 11 am. Interment will be in South View Cemetery, Covington, Georgia.
