Barbra Jean Austin, 92, of Allegan, MI has gone to her mansion over the hilltop to be with the love of her life on Monday, August 21, 2017. Born November 12, 1924 in Allegan, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Lillian Miller Truax and was the wife of the late Eugene Austin, who preceded her in death in 1997. Mrs. Austin was a former member of the Kalamazoo Gun Club. She and her husband enjoyed spending time with each other hunting, fishing and camping in the Airstream they purchased to travel throughout their golden years in. Mrs. Austin was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a friend to many and will be dearly missed. Mrs. Austin is survived by her daughter, Carolyn J. Rook and husband Larry; sisters, Betty Walters and Donna Hotchkiss; grandsons, Scott Armstrong and his wife, Jen, Rob Austin and his fiancé, Nikki, and Kevin Rook and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Lilly Armstrong and Xander Armstrong. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ron Austin; and her sisters, Maxine Austin and Shirley Hoyer. In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Austin will be laid to rest beside her husband at Grand Prairie Cemetery in Kalamazoo. A private graveside service will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Wings Home, 330 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010. Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Following the service, a luncheon will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at the American Legion Post 84 in Otsego, Michigan on 410 E. Orleans Street. Come celebrate the life of Barb with her family.
