IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Ann
Miller
December 29, 1934 – April 5, 2025
Barbara Ann Miller spent her final hours surrounded by her family knowing she was back home at Dumont Lake after a brief illness. She was born in Sparta, MI to William and Bertha (Monroe) Lautenschleger and was the 10th of eleven children. Barb always joked that she was always a "10". She graduated from Allegan High School with the Class of 1953 before marrying H. James Miller in 1955 and beginning an adventurous life out at Dumont Lake. She worked at the Allegan County Courthouse until she and Jim began their family and she chose to be a homemaker. Her years proudly supporting her children at various sporting events led to her love of watching sports. Barb was an enthusiastic Michigan Wolverines football fan both from the sidelines and in her living room. For a short time after the kids were in high school, she also enjoyed working as a short order cook in Hopkins.
Barb enjoyed the lake life of friends, golf cart parades, geese-chasing, and happy hour as well as camping with their camping group. She was also a fan of harness racing. While Jim and their son, Mike, did the dirty work with the horses, Barb was known to proudly state her only job was to make sure her hair was combed for the winner circle pictures. She would also volunteer as a timekeeper during the races at the fair.
Barb's dedication to her community extended to her many years as an election worker for Allegan Township where she championed inclusivity and fairness. Her deep sense of patriotism and commitment to her beliefs were cornerstones of her character.
Barb is survived by her partner in life and love of 26 years, Roy James, and his beloved family; her brother Dan (Judith) Lautenschleger; her children, Mike (Heather) Miller of Allegan, Melissa (Peter) Ginopolis; her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, James, Alena, Hannah (Jacob), Jaclyn, and Laurel, along with her many friends in Michigan, Florida, and Camp Fukauwe.
There will be a Celebration of Life announced later when the weather is better at the lake. In lieu of flowers, she would have wanted support to be shown to Wings of Hope Hospice or Community Action of Allegan County.
Barb will be deeply missed but her love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
