Barbara N. Browne, 83 of Allegan, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Fountview of Holland. Mrs. Browne was born July 8, 1920 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Weed) Nichols. Following high school she attended Western Michigan University and played in their band. She had worked as a secretary in the Guidance Department at Allegan High School for 20 years retiring in 1998. She had volunteered at the American Red Cross and enjoyed knitting and making christmas stockings, crafting, traveling and being around people. Surviving are her husband, Harry; 1 son and his wife, Neil & Susan Browne of Otsego; 3 grandchildren, Leslie Anne & Jerry Howard, Christine Elizabeth & Dan Burley, Steven & Tina Augustine; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 brother-in-law, Robert & Elsie Browne of Napa, CA; 1 nephew, Bradford & Judy Browne of Napa, CA, and many dear friends who loved her much. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother who raised her, Mrytle (Simmons) Nichols. The family will greet friends Thursday from 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. A graveside memorial service will be held Friday 11:00 at Mountain Home Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles Nichols Memorial Engineering Loan at Western Michigan University.
