Allegan, Michigan, died Sunday, September 26, 2004 at his home. Mr. Brooks was born May 18, 1923 in Salem Twp., the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Drier) Brooks. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Mae (Green) Smith Brooks, whom he married Feb. 3, 1972; 11 children, Gloria Lane of Kalamazoo; David (Tina) Brooks of Florida, Richard (Barb) Brooks, John (Sally) Brooks, both of Allegan; Barb (Steve) Shiller of Muskegon, Kenny Brooks of Allegan, Roger Brooks of Alabama, Dorie (Victor) Schwartz and Deb Black both of Florida, Cheryl Blank, and Lee Brooks, both of Allegan; 5 step children, Burdette (Sue) Smith of Lawton, Howard (Hylie) Smith of Kentucky, Ken (Kathy) Smith of Gobles, Sandy (John) Brady of Indiana, and Ed (Carmen) Smith of Holland; 33 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 brother Sam "Duane" Brooks of Allegan; 3 sisters, Joyce Thompson, Virginia (Bill) Lane, and Shirley Engle, all of Allegan; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; former son-in-law, Don Blank, of Allegan. Friends may meet with the family from 1 p.m. Thursday until time of service at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Pastor Lester Warner officiating. Interment Salem Township Cemetery, Burnips, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
