Obituary

Annie McIntyre Calkins, 95, of Holland, Michigan passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Freedom Village. Born February 5, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of William and Annie (Ferguson) McIntyre and was the wife of the late Donald Albert Calkins. Mrs. Calkins worked as a secretary in the Detroit area for 40 years. She and Donald eventually retired in his hometown of Allegan, Michigan. Annie enjoyed singing in church choirs, dancing with her husband, and playing golf. Short in stature, but strong in spirit, Annie was proud of her Scottish heritage and was active in politics. Annie and Donald were dedicated pet parents to their dogs Gizmo, Tar, Rocky, Buddy, Shadow, Specs, and Rags, along with their cats, Sam and Sandy. Mr. and Mrs. Calkins played a special role in the lives of their extended family. The hosting of family gatherings at their homes in Detroit, Bradenton, Florida, and their cottage on Lake Michigan created cherished memories for their nieces, nephews, and families.

Mrs. Calkins is survived by several cousins, twelve nieces and nephews, a sister in-law, Gwendolyn Calkins, and special friends. Along with her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her husband’s siblings and spouses: Harold Calkins (Ceil), Jean Moore (Robert), Jane Nahikian (William) and Tom Calkins as well as nephews Kim Moore and Michael Calkins.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date followed by inurnment at Fort Custer alongside her beloved husband.
