Hopkins Twp., MI, passed away peacefully at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility, Tuesday, December 20, 2005. Mr. Stegeman was born November 25, 1916 in Allegan, the son of Charles B. and Florence I. (Raber) Stegeman. During the summers, in the 1970's, he had trained horses and worked the carriage tours in Mackinaw Island.. He was a lifetime farmer, horse trainer and trader and worked his fields with his Belgian horses. He had been a member of the Allegan Co. Draft Horse and Mule Assoc. He had a good life, and is now in a better place. Surviving are his wife, Betty (Swann); 2 sons, Chuck and Karisa Stegeman and their children Jake and Wyatt, and Wayne Stegeman, and his daughter, Julie; 4 stepchildren, Dorothy and Jim Wilson and Darlene and Jerry Gant, all of Allegan, Don Guritz of Hopkins, and Diane and David Linder of Allegan; several step grandchildren; 2 nieces, Beth and Paul Ilg of Minnesota and Janie and Jim Nelson of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kathryn Johnson, and a step grandson. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Mr. Comer Skinner officiating. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Twp. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Allegan Co. Medical Care Facility or FFA Alumni.
